Coordination and Fusion in Multimodal Interaction

چکیده

Multimedia Input Analysis Whereas traditional interfaces support sequential and unambiguous input from devices such as keyboard and conventional pointing devices (e.g., mouse, trackpad), intelligent multimodal interfaces (see www.mitre.org/resources/ centers/it/maybury/tutorial.html) relax these constraints and typically incorporate a broader range of input devices (e.g., spoken language, eye and head tracking, three dimensional gesture). For example, they support asynchronous, ambiguous, and inexact input by applying more sophisticated analysis of input. These systems allow the resolution of multimedia references, for example enabling the user to say "Put that there" while gesturing to a map, by correlating eye and hand gestures with the deictic expressions “that” and “there” (Burger and Marshall 1993). Intelligent interfaces can also exploit models of the media, user, discourse, and task and automatically detect and correct errors.

Multimodal medical image fusion based on Yager’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets

The objective of image fusion for medical images is to combine multiple images obtained from various sources into a single image suitable for better diagnosis. Most of the state-of-the-art image fusing technique is based on nonfuzzy sets, and the fused image so obtained lags with complementary information. Intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFS) are determined to be more suitable for civilian, and medi...

FUSION AND COORDINATION FOR MULTIMODAL INTERACTION Roadmap, Architecture, Tools, Semantics

Users require more effective and efficient means of interaction with increasingly complex information and new interactive devices. This document summarizes the results of the international Dagstuhl Seminar on Coordination and Fusion in Multimodal Interaction that took place at Schloss Dagstuhl in Germany October 27 through November 2, 2001. We first outline a research roadmap in the near and lo...

An Adaptive Approach to Collecting Multimodal Input

Multimodal dialogue systems allow users to input information in multiple modalities. These systems can handle simultaneous or sequential composite multimodal input. Different coordination schemes require such systems to capture, collect and integrate user input in different modalities, and then respond to a joint interpretation. We performed a study to understand the variability of input in mul...

Achieving Multimodal Cohesion during Intercultural Conversations

How do English as a lingua franca (ELF) speakers achieve multimodal cohesion on the basis of their specific interests and cultural backgrounds? From a dialogic and collaborative view of communication, this study focuses on how verbal and nonverbal modes cohere together during intercultural conversations. The data include approximately 160-minute transcribed video recordings of ELF interactions ...

Multimodal Fusion for Interaction Systems

Researchers in computer science and computer engineering devote now a significant part of their efforts in communication and interaction between human and machine. Indeed, with the advent of real-time multimodal and multimedia processing, computer is no longer seen only as a calculation tool, but as a machine of communication processing, a machine that accompanies, assists or promotes many acti...
